Split dual channel

Hi everyone.  Recently bought a laptop (Haswell i5-4310M) with a single 4gb DDR3L SODIMM. 

 

Obviously not enough.  But trying to decide whether I should buy a single 8gb SODIMM to add to the pair of 4gb, or if I should buy a pair. 

 

What sort of performance loss am I looking at by having a "split" 4 + 8gb = 12gb configuration? 

 

Any sites do any benchmarks of such?

anyway, it'll probably run in single channel

but it doesnt matter to the average consumer `-`

Err, just 1 4gb SODIMM.  Woops.
