Hello LTT, I was wondering what the best upgrade for me would be. My current rig is:

i5 4590 @3.30

MSI PC Mate ATX

XFX R9 390

RM 750 PSU

8 gigs RAM

I was thinking of upgrading either the CPU or the GPU. I really want to get a 6600k and oc it, but that would mean that I would have to change the motherboard and RAM (I think). My other option would be to grab a 4770k and not change anything. Or, pick up a GTX 980ti (Whats your company preference?).

Thanks for the help in advance!!!

You're talking 'best upgrade', i don't see you mention a SSD. So, question is: Does your rig have a SSD installed? If not, then that would be my upgrade of choice right now.

As for CPU and GPU...

The CPU is pretty decent actually, just sucks it's not unlocked. Going 4770k or even a 4790k would be my pick, no need for changing MOBO/RAM then which will be an expensive upgrade all together. The GPU, what resolution are you playing at right now? It's difficult to recommend you a GPU without knowing that.

Quote

Nvm, incorrect.

nothing much you should change except adding another 8gb of ram to 16gb if you even need that many ram lol

also, maybe an ssd if you dont have one

i dont see the need for you to change your processor, its still a capable cpu

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yes I have an SSD. I am currently playing games like the division at 1440-4k. (Getting 30-45 fps)

30-45 fps isn't the best gaming experience. I would look into a new GPU then. You're CPU is still fine and won't bottleneck something like a GTX980Ti on 1440p.

GTX980Ti will be a great performance boost. Question is if you want to wait for the new cards to be released, or not. I'm personally not for waiting, because if you have to wait for tech to be released you will never get to play a game. All you're going to do is waiting then.

In short: best performance boost you can go for is a new GPU. Your CPU isn't the best but it's not holding you back.

Do you recommend any brands? (EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte?)

They're all pretty good.

EVGA for their incredible service/RMA, Gigabyte Xtreme seems to be an awesome card (on air) in general, seems to clock very well. MSI seems decent as well but I've never owned one. I'd suggest reading some recent reviews on the net, that will give you a better picture at it.

I chose EVGA and I'm very satisfied, no reason to ever go with different brand for me.
