Im asumeing that you are saying that for whatever reason, the sata conection and or m.2 on your mb broke. Assumeing that is the case, I would not try to boot from an sd card as it will just be generally problematic. I would go with a low profile usb stick as your boot drive, especialy if you will not be writeing to it heavely. As for the drive for evrything else, realy anything will do. You can pick up a 1tb wd blue pretty cheap, so maybe that. Ill add some links for you. Not sure were you are at but ill put some U.S. Amazon links. Hope that helps. Best of luck.
