Hi,

My brother does a very good job at taking up all the bandwidth, so I decided to block him from the internet using the IP Filter on the router settings. However, when he uses an ethernet cable, he can get around it and still get on the internet. So, can I block him from using ethernet also?

Thanks,

Ron.

What kind of Router are you using ?

You could configure the router to just use static IP's and set the range yourself.

Or you could block him using EVIL FOCA!!!

Thanks for the software, I'm using a Virgin Media Superhub, no clue about the model.

Use Mac address filtering. Or you can set times for him to access the internet.

Instead of using IP address, you could try blocking MAC address. Unless he knows how to change it, not particularly hard.

Thanks, he will definitely not know how to change it.

You can easily change that.

If he knows how to use google it's easy to get around.

Not when he doesn't know he's been MAC blocked xD

Simple troubleshooting can figure that out though. Not many other things can stop you from connecting to a router.

Ok, say he knows how to change IP address AND MAC address. I would then...

1. disable the RJ45 ports on the router if options are available.

2. disable DHCP then set the LAN to some obscure address like 1.2.4.1 so that he can't manually set a local IP without trying a buttload of IPs.

3. use app like wifikill (not available through Play Store) and actively arp reject his devices.

I feel so evil muahahahahahaha

The Internet is invented by cats. Why? Why else would it have so much cat videos?

Yet again this can be easily concurred, I'll just spoof his connection. Change my computer name and Mac Address to match his. This will cause the router to have some issues, and in return he will have to remove the changes, or try and change his. By the time he changes his I'll mock it again on mine. Or easy way around this load Kali on a usb, I'm going to guess his system isn't encrypted so I'll boot kali. Get his password file for windows, boot in and change the setting myself so he can no longer connect. I'll open the router and break the reset button so their is no way to fix this unless he wants to get a new router...

Now who is evil....

LOL if his brother knew how to do this, this thread is moot. Besides, brother would have to know beforehand the OP's MAC and hostname. And again, breaking the reset button is MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). But then, if one knows abit about electronics, the reset button isn't really that important in the event of needing to reset the device xD

My brother is 13 years old, I don't think he's capable of that much evil haha.

I wouldn't say that, I did this kind of stuff when I was that age and my parents were doing the same thing to me. But they never figured out how I kept getting on the internet lol

Assuming he had some deep down knowledge that no one knows about he could just boot Kali and get this all done.

Do you know what he is doing to eat up all the bandwidth? Depending on the activity you could also just block that protocol "Ex. Torrenting" I would just block TCP ports 6881-6889.

That's a good idea. Mom and dad might be upset that their kid can no longer do his homework on the computer. Blocking the specific protocol for torrenting/game/whatever would be more targeted.

That was my first thought but I kinda went sideways lol and went straight towards blocking him.

I don't think that would even be right in my opinion to completely restrict internet access, I learned most of my knowledge through reading forum and stuff.
