is it feasible to mount a mac mini that i have lying around into a  5.25" bay, i would have to rip out all the internals and possible make a mounting system in some way?

EDIT: i have the old '09 version and their is an ifixit tear down and their are some holes on the motherboard i will be upgrading the ram if it doesn't fit in a 5.25" i will put it into my future case the 540 air and drill some holes so i can mount it on the other side of the motherboard near or above the power supply

um, you could try... I don't think it would work... but why? Just mount it on the back of your monitor.

Its about 7 or 8 inches wide with the housing and I'd say at least 6" wide without it. Wouldn't work. Why though?

i would personally use some thick soft double sided tape

It will be more than enough for supporting the weight and it will last years..(depending on how much you'll put on)

I agree with the other guys, by taping it you dont have the risk of breaking stuff, apple are quite stupid when it comes to allowing people to upgrade so i dont like opening the mini will help, it might even break something so that it doesnt return to its original appearance.

here's what i would do.

mount it in the harddrive cage area. this will keep it hidden and it should fit.

the ports wont be accessable BUT you could run extensions for the ports you need to the back of your case and out a PCI port.

that was my idea to do it behind the motherboard and have extensions but if im using teamviewer i can just have the power plugged in and nothing else except for a memory stick or something. since on the ifixit teardown it has 4 holes that looks like im able to put in some motherboard stand offs and then mount it like a real motherboard

apple is not a friendly little company and you will void your warranty if you try this. I would just grab some industrial double sided tape and put it where you can fit it then run a power cable and a usb extension cable to the rear of the case.

it is an 2009 model and im not to worried about voiding the warranty because its 4 years old and no one uses it any more

You wont really even need to take it apart in that case.
