Is the 2600k still viable?

I'm going to build a new pc this summer, and I am planning somewhere in the $800 dollar range, not sure exactly what to get so i came here. One of my friends has a second hand 2600k he uses now and he offered me $150 usd for it.

I was planning on something like this:

Is a 2600k a good replacement for a 6500k?

Is it worth it?

Please Help!

The 2600k is fine for everything. I personally wouldn't go back a generation and I would get a 6700k for the same price as 2600k + Mobo + ram.

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

The 2600k is still nice for gaming,

id say about as good as the i5 6500 (little better multi core performance vs little better single core performance).

If you dont get a cheap mobo and ddr3 with that I wouldnt go for it though, the skylake cpu is more modern with lower power usage and stuff like usb 3.1, ultra m.2, pcie 3.0
