Upgrade to Friends PC

PokeCatz

My freind has an HP p7 1597c

Specs

Intel Core i5 3330

12 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz

1.5 TB HDD

Foxconn Joshua H61 uATX (Yes it says uATX, stop doubting me)

Intel HD Graphics

My freind uses his PC for playing TF2.

That's it.

I was thinking he could buy a GPU without a power connector, but I don't know if his motherboard can deliver that amount of power.

Any recommendations for uprgrading?

Thanks,

PokeCatz

You would need to know the wattage of the PSU that came with the computer and check a graphics card compatible to have the power go through the motherboard, and I wouldn't really trust the PSU then to supply the power for it.

a 750ti would be fine for what he plays. Still a pretty good choice. Other than that, maby a low tier psu, seeing as that appears to be quite old.

It's only a 300W PSU so...

You can't do any upgrades at all... sorry a graphics card even the low power pcie powered 950 wouldn't get enough power from 300 watt it needs 350-400 and any other cards require a likely non existent 6 pin so unless your willing to do a psu no upgrades but if you can upgrade to a 500 watt get a 960 that will take one 6 pin and will keep him well going for a while a 960 is a solid medium settings 1080p at 30-50 fps depending on game

What power supply would you recommend. My friend is slightly tight on his budget so.

That is not true, this is a graph showing power usage of a computer with a i7 4790k and various graphics cards on load.

dude look up the power supply requirements it not that it can't it's that it won't and overloading your psu is probably not a good idea

Most gtx 750ti don't have a 6pin to begin with.

well any 750 ti that you would overclock which you would want to for more perfomance need a 6 pin and besides like I said you probably shouldn't stress a cheap 300 watt power supply to the max

IDK what the "Recommended" PSU wattage for said GPU, it is to cover for people who buy no name PSUs that declares their capacity is 750W when it can only do 450W.

Also notice how an overclocked R9 380 doesn't use any more than 300W.

You also don't have to overclock.
