Hey guys - I'm researching a new build and for pricing purposes I need to narrow down my PSU choices.

My parts aren't completely decided yet, but I am thinking an EVGA GS/GQ, just need to know if these wattages are sufficient. Not planning on SLI / crossfire.

i5/i7 no overclocking + r9 380/380x - 500W

i5/i7 no OC + GTX 970 / r9 390 - 650W

Is this about right? How many watts should I add if I want to OC?

Those wattages are fine even if you did want to overclock. I have the EVGA G2 650W and dont have any complaints.

I would put it this way:

i5/i7 no overclocking + r9 380/380x/GTX 970 - 450W (or even 430W, but those more often come with too few PCIe power connectors)

i5/i7 no OC + r9 390 - 500W

Add about 100W for CPU and GPU OC, or 150W if you really want to push it.

An i5 and 380 will not use more than 300W on their own. 500W is fine and the GS and GQ are both great PSUs.

An i7 is pointless for gaming, as most will tell you so get the i7 and a 390 and the 650W GQ and you're more than OK.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
