Has anyone had problems in getting their controllers ( cheaper 3rd party ones) to work with certain games? In my case, the games straight up refuses to load if a controller is connected, and then does not respond...i have to alt+tab and close it manually....

Yes. Some games are stupidly made to only work with the real xbox 360 controller even if your gamepad is xinput. You either need to emulate it (x360ce) if it doesn't work, or re-map the buttons if they are messed up (xpadder). The re-mapping method usually is needed for games of the pre-xinput era (dinput) and usually the triggers won't work.
