I want to build a new pc and i started saving money. In the near future i will sell my ps4 current gpu etc and get some more money. Currently i do not know how much money i will have in the end but it will be enough for current gen i7. Around summer vacation i will buy everything so i can use the pc over the summer. The pc will have decent everithing a gpu ofc and an i7 4790k or 6700k. What i do not understand is why is the 6k not as good as the 4k. It shoultd be better right ? Its the best 6th gen i7. Though why would i buy a 4th gen its already 2 gen old and i read that the next gen is coming q4 2016. What should i get for a gaming pc. Other factors to take into account are dx12 games coming 2017, win 10, ddr3 vs ddr4, next gen gpus. I can't take a decision because there are a lot of factors and i'm still a pc noob. If i were to buy the latest and the greatest 2 years ago it would have been easy. What my final question is: should i get an i7 4790k , i7 6700k or should i wait for next gen cpu ? ( i don't have any overclocking experience but i will try to do it if a get a new pc on my current one so at the beginning i wont oc the new i7 )

The i7 6700K is better than the i7 4790K. I don't know what benchmarks or videos you're looking at.

If you ask me, just save the cash and go for a i5 6600K and DDR4 RAM. You'll be fine for just gaming on it. Don't need an i7 unless you need the hyperthreading for workstation applications.

.

That is the exact opposite of what he is saying.  He states that the 4000 series is better than the 6000 BUT as it is a bigger number/newer generation the 6000 should be better.

What? From what I understand, he believes the i7 4790K is faster than the i7 6700K. That is not true.

That explains it.

CPUBoss is the biggest pile of crap. It's misleading and their ranking system is total garbage. It should never be used as point of information.

The i7 6700K performs better than the i7 4790K.

I had a 4790k and upgraded to a 6700k, I do a lot of Photoshop and illustrator work, and the 6700k shows better performance in a workstation(probably because of DDR4). but unless you have a $500 graphics card, you won't notice a difference in gaming.

i have a msi gtx 970 G1 Overclocked and it only improved a couple frames
