Hi i have windows 10 currently on my harddrive and i need help on how to format it? Because iam going to upgrade my computer parts like cpu and motherboard i seen many people say that you need to put new key or something. The thing is that i want a clean install because power shortage and i got a corrupted file and i want to reinstall windows again straight of my usb. By any chance if you do leave the hdd alone and stil have windows on it and you plugged it onto the new motherboard will it boot right off it or will it ask me to select a boot drive like when you first build your pc? thanks

Preferrably use clonzille, ubcd, or dban running from a flash drive to wipe the disk. Then use a flashdrive to install windows. You could install windows and let it format the drive when it installs but thats not as deep. You can leaeve the windows on it, but there might be compatibility issues.

Hey there :) Welcome to the community!

The OS installer itself gives you the option to manage the existing partitions so you can easily delete the partition table off the drive and install over the old data the fresh OS with the apps.

Another option would be to connect the drive to a working computer (internally or externally) and simply fill it with zeros or perform a full format.

Any of these options should suffice :)
