I'm about to order this PSU, either today or tomorrow and I have a strict budget of $80. Is the EVGA GQ 650 good? http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Modular-Crossfire-Warranty-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459822308&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+gq

EDIT: The EVGA GS 650 is the same price right now, should I get that?

i like linux

It's a great PSU.

I'd go for the EVGA GS 650 for full modularity.

The only non-modular cable on it is the 24 pin which actually makes cable management easier than on a fully mod as it brings the thickest cable closer to the grommets on your chassis. Unless you have custom cables in mind (in which case a sleeved extension on the 24pin would work), I personally think semi mod is better.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Well, as someone who builds many computers for friends, family, and some of my clients, I like having a spare fully modular power supply. If something goes wrong and I need to troubleshoot something or have the system temporarily power with it, it's easier and quicker just to unplugged the connection on the PSU side and make the switch, rather than cutting the zip ties and pulling the 24pin cable through wires and cable grommet holes and then redo it later.

As for easier cable management, the only time I recalled having trouble connecting the 24-pin was on a non-modular power supply in a full tower case on one of my first builds. The cable was a bit short and trying to plugged it in was quite a hassle. What I did now in a few of my recent build with a fully modular PSU is have the 24-pin and 8-pin plugged to the motherboard first. Because the PSU is not mounted to the case, I was able to bring the PSU to the connectors. The PSU is easier to hold on to when you'd mount onto the case afterwards, rather than trying to bend and turn a thick cable into a specific location.

I get the first part. I don't do that often enough myself to justify caring though.

Second part, I don't mean it's hugely more difficult, but the 24-pin is slightly easier to route when closer to the other side of the chassis.

Comes down to preference, I mean I bought my EVGA GS because modularity was one of the features but I would have bought the GQ had I felt safe waiting like 7 more months running on my Antec BP350.
