Hey Guys, I'm going to upgrade my system soon and I heard that Intel will release new CPU's in the near future. As I'm aiming to get an i7 5820k or 5930k, I was wondering if I could save a bit by waiting until the new CPUs are out.

My questions are:

  • When will the new Intel i7 Processors be released? I could only find roadmaps with the Q2-3-4 and thats not very accurate.
  • How much can be saved by waiting?
  • Are they gonna be much more powerful or is the only difference the price and the cores?

I dont need more than 6 cores, but 4 aren't enough otherwise I'd have gone with a 6700k or similar. That means, I will always stay with the "lower end" of that series and not go with 8 or 10.

Hope you can help me :)

Unfortunately, we can't say for sure yet.

But if they continue to follow the same trend they have been, there will be a small (maybe 5-10%) increase in processing power and a reduction in heat output.

What are you doing that needs that many cores?

Cannonlake will be much better defently. Skylake 6700k is one of the best on single thread loads. Which is most programs or poorly optimised ones.

Broadwell-E is the x99 i heard its the same socket as currenty mobos not sure about it. obviously much better 4 new will come 2 hexa cores, one 8 core and one 10 core.

I think 6850k will be badass cpu and worth the wait its hexacore.

"- When will the new Intel i7 Processors be released? I could only find roadmaps with the Q2-3-4 and thats not very accurate."

We dont know for sure when for sure and personally I dont know really, as some of Intel's new architectures are like workstation only stuff.

"- How much can be saved by waiting?"
not a whole lot, as Haswell for example is now still almost on par with Skylake for quite a bit less (for CPU+motherboard)

"- Are they gonna be much more powerful or is the only difference the price and the cores?"

Judging by the last couple of years, there will be a 10-15% difference. But I am not sure of course if they will make 6 core chips.

Okay, kinda weird way to choose your CPU, better go for something a bit more high end right? :P

And just keep in mind the 6700K has 8 threads, not 4 cores, but seems like you do understand that.

Yeah, what should I say. I have my reasons and I know that it got HT, why should I mention that? My question was when the new CPUs will be released and if I should wait, not what CPU I should buy.
