They would not be able to work together in games to give better performance.

You can only SLI two of the same chips to utilize SLI in games :(

Would putting both of them in help for anything else?

For things like Folding and BOINC, the program would use any and all hardware. IIRC you can use it for rendering (dont quote me on that, Im not positive).

Remember DirectX 12 will natively support it soon, or he can use it for PhysX.

Make sure you have the right answer before attempting to answer, pls

1. My bad, wasnt aware of that

2. IIRC the 480 wouldnt even make a difference in PhysX games, the current cards, especially the 980Ti are way fast and can handle the PhysX load without even needing the PhysX card :P

IF the devs take their time to implement it. DX12 is still not being widely used yet, but even then, it depends on the devs to allow multi-gpus like that.

Also, using lower end cards with higher end ones does NOT increase performance; in fact, the few tests we had on the subject ended up performing worse than just using the single stronger GPU.

@rm -rf, Either join the crunching and use that 480 for distributed computing, or sell it. Or maybe use it in another PC.
