hey first time pc builder here, im using an old server case that has usb 1 conector annd ONE usb 2 and an optical drive i want to replace the 5.25 optical drive with this and i wonder if it is compitable with the mother board ty for any help

Its just a usb connection so yea, its compatible.

i think you'll be left with one usb 3.0 plug after you plug all these connectors in

assuming your case doesnt have IO lol

wat is 1O?

 

if you men gen one usb it does actually, im using this one as a temporary solution untill i can get some more money

basically means that the expansion you're getting will hog up 3 usb ports on the motherboard (2 usb2 and 1 usb3)

so your motherboard will have one usb3 port unfilled

so if your case have a usb 3, you can use that remaining port, but you wont have enough usb 2 header if your case needs it

i could still use the usb 2 on the usb 3 conectors on the motherboard though?

just with decreased speeds

they have totally different connector for the motherboard lol

 

usb3 =  blue, usb2 = the small block connector

you know, even if your case comes with usb2 and 3 header, its fine to just not plug them in

its just that they cant be used
