So I bought an open box kit of 16GB DDR3 HyperX. With both the sticks in, the system doesnt post. However one of them it does, but the other doesnt. Does that mean that stick is dead?

*Edit: I have an ITX board so only 2 RAM slots, system is currently running with one of my 4GB sticks and an 8GB stick from the kit.*

Use one 1 8gb stick at a time. So using the working one. Then use the one you think doesn't work by its self and see if it posts. What is your cpu

I have an i5 4690k. I tried both sticks separately in both slots so it appears as tho one is dead.

The stick or the slot? Rma whichever has the non functional component

The stick, its currently running 12GB no problem. Also, if I RMA, do I have to send both sticks back? Or just the dead one?

It takes forever to RMA, but you'd have to send both if it came in a kit. So sometimes it's better to take a loss and just buy another stick

depending if its a "kit" i think you'll have to send both back, the retailer will send you a complete "kit" then too

The only concern I have is that I bought it as an open box product. However the retailer said that only the seal had been opened and the product was still 'new'

Final question, will my system work fine with an 8Gb and a 4Gb stick in it?

If it does t work for you then it's. It your fault it was a open box. You can still RMA it, if they don't let you, sue them xD they have to test open box stuff to see if it still works so they should of done that

I knew I was taking a risk with open box, however I went with it bc it was £15 cheaper than new, and was from an established seller on amazon.

Think ill leave it for now and sort it out when I get a bigger case and my H100i, too much effort atm to keep switching out RAM bc of the 212. System should work fine now even with different amounts or RAM in the slots right?

They have to test open box items I'm pretty sure so it's not your fault. I don't see how ram can get broken in shipping unless it's physical damage. I'd just RMA is they should let you

just rma it ;) amazon is buyer friendly and you dont get problems

the earlier you RMA the faster you have working RAM

and for the h100i i'd suggest to run the fans from the motherboard and not with corsair link, the standard fans are loud af

or get some other

Noctua NF F12 "PWM": 22,4dB max 1500RPM static pressure 2,61mmH2O "air rate" 93,4m³/h
Corsair H100i GTX :37,7dB max 2500RPM static pressure 4,65 mmH2O "air rate" 70,69m³/h

Whatever came in the box you have to send back. They'll either refund you or send you a working one
