I'm running Windows 10 N on a GTX 770 with the Media Pack update installed (kb3010081).

I've tried drivers, reinstalls, redoing directory and hotkeys, restarting the services, and ofc the media pack that fixes everyone's problem when they use N editions.
Originally I had done the update from 8.1 to 10 but that had some problems so I reinstalled 10 from scratch with full format (problems unrelated)

Here is what happens. When I start recording, the mic icon and the video icon show up. Mic is good, video has the red slash. The directory is good and my HDD has tons of space. Sometimes I'll even get the video icon to be green but no files ever show up anywhere (and the "gallery" stays empty). In the overlay options menu, I cannot turn on video recording, the option is unclickable. I've tried recording with and without desktop recording, in fullscreen and windowed and borderless to no avail. No files are ever created out of any situation. Tried several games and desktop and none of them work.

At this point should I just get dxtory or something?

Have you tried reinstalling GeForce Experience? I know Shadowplay is pretty damn broken, but it helped my Shadowplay.

If you're using Shadowplay for the "oh shit, I just did something awesome, let's record the last five minutes of gameplay" feature, I totally understand. It's great for that. But if you're using it for dedicated recording, you should consider using OBS as your recording software.

Reinstalling made it worse, as now I have an older version of Shadowplay (without the overlay) and it doesn't even let me turn it on. Interestingly enough the GFE is newer slightly (had .49 now it's .55)

So I'll have to say goodbye to the minimal FPS impacts and ease of use. Oh well.

GFE??? Also I really think you should consider using OBS.
