Hi!

A friend needed help with a new build. It's pretty simple and intended to be overclocked and watercooled in the future but nothing too extravagant. The problem is I can't seem to find a case that meets ALL these criteria:

  • Windowed side panel
  • "Gamer-y" look
  • Mid tower and no larger (Size matters!)
  • Support for some watercooling options (for future upgrades)
  • WHITE!!!
  • Very quiet case

Aesthetically, my friend wants the NZXT Noctis 450 (white edition). Personally I think something like the Define R5 windowed version would be more practical in exchange for the look but it's not my build.

What I need to know is if the system isn't as quiet (even with low-rpm fans installed) as desired, would noise-damping foam on the side panels help at all since the window can't be covered (and it's roughly half the panel)? Can anybody suggest sound-damping material (cheap if possible)? I've done the math and should need about 4 000 cm² (0.4 m² or 4.3 sq. feet) of the material since only 11/2 side panels can be covered with noise-reduction foam.

I've already done some research but since I have absolutely no experience isolating a case I'd appreciate info/help from any one who has already done this.

Hey there!

Silverstone makes adhesive-backed noise dampening foam that you can easily stick to the inside of a PC (that's what it was designed for). They sell it in 21 inch x 15 inch sheets, and it's pretty cheap too. I'd recommend that.

Also, you should invest in some quiet case fans if you really want silence. Try Noctua, be quiet! or Phanteks for high quality quiet fans.

I am not a professional. I am not an expert. I am just a smartass. Don't try and blame me if you break something when acting upon my advice.
