Starting a Youtube Channel, going to need to store a decent amount of footage and data (No redundancy in the budget :( wish me luck). HDD will be close by on a shelf. I need to Data to be FAST for editing purposes, but I would like it external to keep the noise down when I am not using it. I could add a new HDD to my PC, but then it would always be spinning.

I am wondering if USB 3.0 or Ethernet is the way to go. Wondering what you guys will suggest.

I've got this sort of system, I've got a system in my closet with 3x1TB HDD's connected to a gigabit switch that leads to another gigabit switch that leads into my PC / Network. The transfer speeds to and from my server and main system are great, about 110MB/s which I'm super happy about however editing off it is a different story and so I would recommend editing your videos on computer and then transferring them there once you're done like what I do, and then if I ever need to recall the footage for a different project I can simply grab the few files I need off the server and drop them into my timeline.

Here's a video of me explaining my setup a bit.

You can easily edit video off a USB 3.0 external drive.  I do it with my MacBook with 4K footage from my camera.  If you go the route of a network storage you need a fast data transfer speed, so a network storage is better for archival and backup.

On my home workstation, I offload footage from the memory card onto both the local drive and network storage (backup of the master files), once I finish editing and rendering the final version I transfer the project file to the network storage and delete the files off the local drive.

I think I can det pretty good Lan speeds, but if you are working with 4K over USB 3.0 just fine, I think I would be fine then lol. Which drive do you use? I assume it has a higher RPM?

Just a WD 2TB portable drive.  I don't know the RPM.
