Hello everyone,

Though I have built PC's in the past, this is a wholly new challenge for me.  After seeing the Under $150 Gaming Build video, I have decided to take on the task of making a gaming PC out of a server mobo.

Current build is,

Full disclaimer, I will not even begin to understand how server tech works, so I could use all of the help I can get.

Thanks Guys!

My advice is don't. The CPUs Linus used are HORRIBLE - talking 1/4th of the performance of the AMD 8350 for a single Xeon. You are wasting money.

Archangel (Desktop) CPU: i5 4590 GPU:Asus R9 280  3GB RAM:HyperX Beast 2x4GBPSU:SeaSonic S12G 750W Mobo:GA-H97m-HD3 Case:CM Silencio 650 Storage:1 TB WD Red
Celestial (Laptop 1) CPU:i7 4720HQ GPU:GTX 860M 4GB RAM:2x4GB SK Hynix DDR3Storage: 250GB 850 EVO Model:Lenovo Y50-70
Seraph (Laptop 2) CPU:i7 6700HQ GPU:GTX 970M 3GB RAM:2x8GB DDR4Storage: 256GB Samsung 951 + 1TB Toshiba HDD Model:Asus GL502VT

The thing is the "Budget" part.  I get that the performance isn't all there compared to say the cpu you mentioned, but for my current budget as a college student, spending the same on a cpu as I could on two, a mobo, and ram, dosn't make sense for my needs.

the 770 is overkill tbh, go for a 660 and get an i5 2500 instead

Like @Mohenjo said, go for an i5 2500 and a 660 Ti. Trust me, it will perform better.
