Modem resets to before reset

Fearme99

I got this  modem/router, not sure which " Technicolor TG799vn v2 ". But it doesn't let me access the settings for some reason. So I tried resetting it!
It worked! It didn't even ask for a password or username, it just let me in.
So I did all the things I wanted to do (Portforwarding).

But then, 5-10 minutes later, my internet connection cuts off, and 1-2 minutes after that it works again.. BUT, now I can't access the settings anymore, and portforward still doesn't work..

I have no idea what is happening or how to fix it..

It is a modem/router combo unit.  My overall suggestion is to throw it away, get yourself a dedicated modem and a dedicated router and go from there.

What is happening (I'm assuming) is your ISP is uploading their "We know better than you" settings to the unit once it gets online, this overrides any settings you have configured.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

I would, but it's not mine. My parents.
My dad is saying now like "I don't understand why we didn't take their free router/modem earlier, instead of buying them ourselves" Well dad, HERE'S YOUR REASON.

We'll I'm confused now.  Are you saying that you purchased this unit on your own?

No, we got it from our ISP :(, We used to buy our own units, but this time they chose to just get one free.

Nothing is free.  I can almost guarantee they're paying a rental fee.
