Does this tiny 8-pin difference matter?

While this is the other end of the cable. Weird~~~~~right?

not weird at all

those are correct, those are PCIe power for graphics cards

This picture was took from my  STRIX-GTX970 manual. Does it matter which cable I plug in? The picture certainly shows that the second one is the wrong one but for some reason I can still plug in a wrong square-pin-pattern cable. I'm so confused....do I need the "right pattern" cable or not?

Just plug in the one that says "GPU".  It should be a 6+2 cable anyways.

Make sure the cable says PCIe on it.  Also make sure its the correct end.  If you have a modular PSU, the PCIe cables could be pretty similar between the power supply end and the PCIe end.  However, it should be clearly labeled.

one is PCIe power and another is EPS power - don't mess with them if you value your purchase

The PSU end says PCIe indeed, but the other end is labeled VGA and it's the EPS power pin layout you are talking about......................dang....I'm confused

can you post a pic? you're confusing me ...

VGA would be a way to label it but how is EPS ?!?!

what PSU? make and model, maybe we can find a manual and clear it up

the EPS connector has the yellow cable ends on top:

while the PCIe connector has the yellow cables on the bottom:

I just realized.....it's my mistake........let me clear it up. My graphic card needs a connector like the first pic and my cable looks the second pic. There's only 2 squares in the second one. So they are the same?

Those are right cables. PCI-e are 6pin, 6+2pin or 8pin while EPS are 4pin, 4+4pin usualy and 8pin.

Thank you for all your help. But new question.......the 8-pin connector on my mobo looks like 1st pic while the 4+4 pin cable looks like 2nd pic. Are they the same then?

Some motherboards only need a 4 pin power connector so the power supply lets you split them in case you do. So just put them together and put it in.... Wait. Now I'm confused the bottom is completely different. What cable is that one one he bottom? See if it fits. I guess don't know if my psu and mobo are like that too? That seems like something is wrong with your psu idk.
