Which Motherboard?

Go to solution Solved by Trevor87,

Yes it is Z170 is the best for the 6600K. If you are going to SLI later both those boards are not going to work that you have posted.

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=25635

Gigabyte GA-H170-Gaming 3

Or

Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3

These parts are exactly the same price. Which one should i get? (Or should i get a different motherboard in the same price bracket)

Currently my CPU will be a Skylake 6600k with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler, 8gb DDR4 RAM and the GPU is a HD7950, but when Pascal comes out i will be upgrading to either 970 (if i can get a good price) or just buy the next generation equivelant of the 970.

Thanks in advance :)

Between those two options, definitely Gigabyte GA - Z170 - HD3 since you're going to overlock your CPU ( I guess that because it's a Skylake 6600K with a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo).

To be honest, I have never overclocked before, is overclocking worth doing? Does it make the CPU degrade faster?

Is the HD3 really better in terms of features and stuff?

If you're not going to overlock your CPU, then why did you buy the K series?

It doesn't make any sense.

doesn't really make it degrade faster, and there's no point in spending the extra $30 or so for buying the 6600k instead of the 6600.

it will only degrade your cpu faster if you are crazy with it. and go for the Z170.

I have yet to buy the CPU, Ill be buying the CPU and Mobo together, and the K version had faster ghz? I am interested in Overclocking, but just worried about how long the CPU will last if i overclock.

If it reduces the life, is it worth getting the K over the non K for the extra ghz? Im a bit lost on which one i should do really

Yep it does matter when you OC but you only relay overclock when your warranty ends on CPU. If you are not going OC then go with a non K CPU and H motherboard also both those boards only support Crossfire. If you going to get new GPU wait antill the new series of nvidia cards comes out then go for the 970 save yourself some money.

Yeah i was planning on waiting and getting a 970 when a huge sale hits.

Do you think its better to go for the 6600k and Z170 or just get the 6600 and the H170 and save myself some money?

Im not too bothered about overclocking, but if it will improve the frames of games and speed of everyday tasks then i might do it.

Stock clock's on both CPU are the same. If you are not going OC then the stranded cooler that comes with the CPU will work fine.If you are going to OC get a good cooler and only OC when warranty is expired on CPU. It up to you there prose and cones on both sides.

As long as you keep voltage below Intel recommended specs for whatever platform you are on then you don't have much to worry about. You won't notice any degradation.. even pushing above recommended voltages as long as the temps are ok with a good cooling setup then it takes months or years before you have to eventually slightly have to bump up your voltage to maintain your old OC.
