I am not quite sure, and don't quote me on this, but he might need to update his video card/ display drivers.

I'm assuming you forgot to list the GPU because I don't think the 4790K's iGPU works with Nvidia drivers

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

I was about to say, I was confused when he didn't include a video card, I am sure his friend has one.

Usually the drivers crash if they're not installed correctly, are faulty or the video card is overclocked to far and not stable.

So, if his overclocked his card manually, he should decrease the clockspeed again until the driver doesn't crash anymore.
If that isn't the case, he should uninstall all GPU drivers by using the Display Driver Uninstaller (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) and download the latest drivers from NVidia.

It might be, but personally I'm not sure why a psu issue could cause this, but it could be an issue. I'd try swapping it out to check.

It's not the PSU - PSU issues cause the PC to shutdown or restart, not the driver to crash. It's a bad driver. Install 361.75 and it will fix it. Last couple of Nvidia drivers have been tosh
