What and why?

Go to solution Solved by Samdb,

Folding solves problems which allow proteins to be folded in order to help find cures for various diseases. No, there isn't any other reason to spend money on a Folding rig.

I just want to know what folding is and why do people do it. From what I've read so far, you utilize your computing power to help research for good causes. Besides the fact of doing a good deed, is there another reason spend money to build rigs to do this?

So you can fold on your gaming rig and another dedicated folding rig at the same time, because some people want to contribute more, because: Reasons, because: More reasons

Ok, how about bitcoins. What are they and are they tied to folding in any way?

it's a hobby, some people just like doing it and when you get into the leaderboards and become competitive it's way better. in the end, for me, it's all about community. yes, the main reason why I do it is to help get research done, but what keeps me active is all these people who post here every day.

bitcoins are a virtual currency. to sum it up, you use your hardware to "mine" coins which you can then use to buy things, even rl money.

bitcoins aren't tied to folding in any way
