Is Re-flashing Necessary?

Go to solution Solved by stconquest,

As far as I know, a 5770 is compatible with the Windows environment.  You don't need a new bios for the GPU.

Quick questions:

What is the budget for this build?

Where are you located (USA?)

What is needed in terms of the PC's use?  Gaming?  Video editing?  etc...

...and peripherals he might need?

Hi! I'm building a new PC for my brother (my first official build) and was wondering if I would need to "re-flash" a mac GPU to make it work with a PC. I'm wondering because I already have an Apple ATI Radeon 5770 from a Mac Pro, and would like to keep the budget on this build relatively low. Also, if it turns out that "re-flashing" is not necessary, would there be any drawbacks or detrimental effects on the performance of the PC? Any other info or knowledge on the topic is much appreciated. Thank You!

Thanks, as for your questions:

  • I'd like to keep the budget at or around 300$
  • I'm in Arizona
  • He's probably going to be playing Minecraft most of the time, however I expect him to start playing more complex games as he gets older
  • I doubt he will need anything special in the way of peripherals, he should just be fine with a wireless mouse, and USB keyboard we have laying around, and maybe a pair of headphones.

Just let me know if you have any more questions... Thanks again!

Are you re-using any core components?  Things like hard drives, or even a CPU/mobo/RAM.  $300 is a super low budget.  Can be done though...
