What CPU can I get for a Dell Inspiron N5110?m I currently have an i3 2310M and im looking for an i5 or i7 to beef up graphics and overall horsepower. Soon what would be potential options (Im not sure what socket it uses/what is compatible so Im asking here)

Edit: I believe it is Socket G2 so what is a good CPU for that?

It's very unlikely that you are able to swap the CPU, as they are sold to the motherboard 99.9% of the time. Modern laptops normally only have two, or three user serviceable parts.

Harddrive, RAM, and maybe the Wifi card.

It's the same for gpu. Unless the laptop has been marketed as upgradable, then the part in it can't be upgraded. Except for the usual RAM and HDD.

All the upgradable laptops are usually Razer, Alienware or Asus ROG with desktop cpu and possibly even gpu.

There is some basic laptops have an upgradable cpu, but most often it has been soldered to the motherboard, same for gpu.

Your Dell is one from which you can only change RAM and HDD and nothing else.

Ok. In pictures from iFixIt.com on replacing thermal compound it makes it look like the CPU can be upgraded. I might take apart my laptop later (Warranty is long gone) and see

It's not exactly that easy, even if it can be changed. The motherboard of the laptop has to have a BIOS that has the new cpu supported.

Just like on desktop.

You can't. Only 2nd gen ones.

Since you could remove the cpu, it means yours is PPGA988 socket.

And the highest level cpu that can be supported by PPGA988, is i5 2450M.

I looked more into it, and it seems it could run i7 2630QM as long as it has appropriate BIOS version.

And you have high enough power adapter.

Also, the cooler block of i3-2310m might not be powerful enough for the i7, thus it would be overheating.

Is there a way I can set a fan curve on my laptop? I wouldnt mind the fans running a lot faster  to keep it from throttling.
