XBOX ONE Wireless adapter for Windows doesn't work at all!

Patoot

My official, Microsoft wireless adapter for Windows stopped working today, although everything was fine last months. I tried every guide I could find on Internet, but it didn't help. It doesn't light up (with this white light) when I connect it. I can't find it in device manager, I tried different ports etc. The controller is really fine, it works through cable. I did countless reboots and tried many things and still nothing. I am getting desperate. Any ideas how to get this little overpriced thing back to work?

Have you tried contacting Microsoft about the issue?

No, I can't say I have. I am worried that I will wait 2 days for a response like "did you try turn it off and on again?". I was hoping that someone here had or heard about this issue and can help me solve this thing.

Not yet. unfortunately I don't have quick access to any other PC. And reinstalling Windows just seems like an overkill, the solution of last resort. I would like to avoid that.

It just sounds like you've tried everything and there is only so much troubleshooting you can do.
The only thing I would suggest is to try using it in another computer. But it sounds like it died to me.
Contacting Microsoft is the only option I could see. Depending on how old it is, they may have
warranties for faulty products.

Plug the dongle into the extension cord provided, press the button for a few seconds see if it lights up

try this again with dongle directly in a USB port on the PC.

When you bring it back to the shop, throw some useless USB cord in there and keep that nice extension it comes with lol

I did all of that. There wasn't and isn't any record of this adapter in device manager.

I will check when I get home what my dongle shows up as, I'm pretty sure it's something weird.

How am I supposed to install drivers without this device being detectable? I have 4 files (.bin, twice .us and one .sys), what to do with them?
