the install went well and i used a fix from askubuntu.com to boot ubuntu without the install usb :)

The command that fixed my problems:

sudo grub-install /dev/sda

Hey,

I got a server yesterday that i want to do some testing on, but it won't boot from my ssd?

CPU: Dual Intel E5620

RAM: Nanya (what it says on the sticker) 6x8 GB

Mobo: Tyan S7012

PSU: 1u rackserver redundent psu

SSD: 850 evo 250 GB

i booted the server, even set the boot priority to the ssd (which i installed ubuntu desktop on for testing)

but it still wasn't booting from the ssd :(

description of what is on screen:

1. American megatrends loading screen with cpu

2. LSI Corp initialising (press ctrl + c to configure)

when you press ctrl + c it just shows a list of one adapter which is named S7012 with a boot order of 0

3. list of drives (ssd included) (only when you don't press ctrl+c since the LSI configuration thing wants you to reboot)

4. reboots

Make the boot order the the number that your ssd is in.

i already went into the bios and set the ssd to be the highest boot priority (top of the list)

LSI controllers generally don't like Evo series SSD's.

:( how can i fix this?

the ssd is currently connected via a sas backplane that converts to sata.

it also has sata ports but i don't have sata power on this psu :(

but i do have a sata to usb adapter that i will try next :) (have already tried but i didn't change the boot priority then)

sata to usb didn't work

wall plug for sata power + sata cable to sata_0 port didn't work

whyyyyyy server stuff whyyyyyyy
