Best Server/Build for $450?

Looking to start a small scale webhosting service, and maybe a few vps slots, from my house (gigabit internet).

 

Not really sure what to look for with my small budget.

Well, yes. But it'll be more expensive unless you buy mostly (or all) used parts.

New.. Unless they have a nice warranty. For example, If it dosen't work then they send you a new one for free. These are the only 2nd hand parts I would really go for.

you could try some old decommissioned server hardware, large amounts of ddr2 ECC is damn cheap

dual lga 771 xeons would be a good platform, these mobos are also very cheap

If I instead of going with webhosting and did minecraft servers, would ddr2 instead of ddr3 effect performance?

Look on ebay for a dell r610. They are very powerful, yet they are inexpensive.

You wont find deals like that on amazon. Savemyserver is a VERY reputable seller, and I have bought multiple servers from them.
