So I recently built my starter gaming rig but I've encountered issues. Some games crash my pc and make it restart. I manage to fix it sometimes by lowering my graphics, even though GeForce experience says I can do better. Please help. Now it's started to make some odd noises and I don't know what else to do

Evga gtx 750 ti, apevia java 500 watt psu, amd fx 6300 black edition, hyper x fury 8gb ram

I'm usually one to try and truly diagnose the problem before going after a lackluster piece of hardware. I'll still try and help determine any problems, but that PSU has bad news written all over it.
