Hello,

i want a better cpu cooler because i recently upgraded my cpu.

The case manufacturer website says only " CPU coolers up to 162 mm in height " without a picture what height acually means. (http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/core-series/core-2500).I am interested in the Noctua NH-DT 15 with a height (with fan) of 165 mm (http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15/specification). Ok this doesnt work obviously but does height mean in both cases the same?

I thought that height explains the difference between the cpu and case. If you follow this assumption and look at the noctua website it then would be depth instead of height. The depth is 161 mm and it would barely work.

Am I right or are my assumptions just stupid?

Thanks in advance.

They are definitely referring to the 165mm measurement in this instance. This is because the cooler will be mounted horizontal to the ground so it will be the height from where it contacts the CPU to the top of the fan.

Thanks a lot.

This kinda sucks because all good cpu air coolers are to big for my case. I need a good one because i hate noise.

Height for case and cooler both is from mobo/CPU to case sidepanel. Its height because cooler mounts to mobo. If you take mobo as point of reference and think it as flat, horizontal surface, everything going up from that is measured in height.

I found a cpu cooler which fits barely my case and is good. http://www.thermalright.de/en/cooler/50/macho-x2

cpu fan height 162mm, length 150mm, with 155mm

case height 162mm

I need to remove the head spreaders from my RAM, which is no problem. The cooler is pretty large in length and with so do i have to worry that it makes trouble elsewhere?

Thanks
