Hi forum,

I'm looking at doing a NAS in some time. At the moment I have a Respberry Pi 2 running Samba with a 1TB hard drive. Speeds are very slow... I'm getting 3-4MBps over ethernet. Streaming from my Shield TV is very choppy. Can someone recommend a faster device that could deal with NTFS a lot better? I'm not looking at a pre-build NAS like the synology or something else, rather for a device like the Raspberry Pi but much beefier.

Not really... I want to keep the power usage to an absolute minimum. I could buy an old mini laptop and use it as that...

I would recommend not going the laptop route due to durability reasons as well as it will just become cumbersome once you add enough drives. What kind of data would you be storing? How much did you want to spend? Would the data be backed up elsewhere? and what kind of tasks/features would you want? (thinking about now and the future when answering any of the above)

Around 1TB storage for tv series and so on.. Only the ones that are not on netflix. Im looking at a pure nas no redundancy and future upgrades. It's just for a year or so until I can get a proper rackmount nas.
