New Build - Opinions & Things

ddbtkd456

So basically as the title says after a long debate on going to a 4k 50" Vizio M-Series TV, I decided to go with a 1440p 32" monitor instead, so that way I wouldn't have to SLI my graphics card right off the bat. I want opinions people but actual part advice. I have also increased my budget from $2700 to $3000 to include some things. If you have suggestions please add them but as always the final decision is mine, so please include you reason with them. Also it will be used as a backup server, home server, plex server, gaming, encoding/ripping/converting video/music files, and a massive storage; along with the regular stuff like web browsing and a music server, so please keep that in mind. Also I may or may not run a HDMI switch from the computer to my downstairs tv (which will be 4k).

I'd personally maybe swap the MoBo for a sli plus or raider to save a few bucks and invest them on a 32Gb (4x8gb) ram kit, due to your high usage and multitasking and server running and all those things.

Naw man, naw, for the same price you could get the 27" 4k IPS free-sync display here.

also, still a spare thousand bucks in this rig with fairly similar performance

you don't need dual GPUs for 4k exactly, 1080p scales perfectly with it, and later on, in a few months when all the new stuff comes out, those GPUs will be able to push 60fps at 4k pretty well, however a nano will be able to push a good number of games pretty well at 4k, plus you have free-sync to smooth things out

Do you know what kind of gaming fps I would be looking at with a single Nano card? Video cards really are my weak point and I would rather have something that can do 4k on a single card, that is my ultimate goal.

Performance is pretty solid on the nano, it was $650 when it came out, but now with price drops it's a pretty solid card with really good performance per watt as well, closer to a 980 than a 980ti at most times though, however an equivalent G-sync display would be starting at $900 right now, the pricing is screwed up, so go free-sync probably.

If I read that correctly in most cases the GTX 980ti actually outperformed this card. I wouldn't mind possibly getting a Fury tho, but well have to see, I might just stick with the 1440p, my original idea was to do 4k on a 50" Vizio M-series.

Well ya the 980ti is faster, but you get Free-Sync with the Nano/Fury cards, which probably makes them a better experience overall, and you have to OC the 980ti to really beat out the Fury X at least, plus DX12 is really favoring AMD for now, so that'll be more important in the future.

I wouldn't get a TV for a monitor, also did you make sure it was HDMI 2.0 and had 4:4:4 Chroma? The monitors will have less latency, and display port just makes everything easier

Maybe look into the 40" korean displays

The Wasabi Mango here is probably the best overall, it has Free-sync, and it can do True 120hz at 1080p, so you can get really smooth gameplay for games that don't run too well at 1080p, though the free-sync is for the 4k part as it only goes up to 60hz I believe

this one's also one of the more expensive korean displays naturally

32" display here, I'd probably go with the 27" free-sync display in the build above over this one though, unless you're doing more productivity work as well as gaming

Hmmm.....so the fury would be the best one then? I don't mind going with AMD, but gaming is probably one of the lower things I'll be doing on this computer, it'll mostly be productivity and streaming music/videos to two PS4's and a 4k tv. The 4k TV will be in my living room and I plan on putting a switch by my computer so I can switch monitors without actually moving the whole computer. Vizios currently have HDMI 2.0 on there TV's, at least the 4k ones do. I actually currently work as a tech support rep for Vizio, so I know their tv's really well and I can actually fix them, and if I can't I can ask someone there to take a look at it, so as far as that goes Vizio is my choice for tvs. The idea is to put the switch by my computer and be able to switch displays and use a Wireless Xbox controller or something similar to that effect to play games on the TV with it. And why I am doing that it is still acting as a gaint movie/music server for other ipads/iphones/ps4's/computers in the house.

I'd have to measure it to be sure but it would have to travel via a couple walls. I want to say by the time I go the route I need to 20-25 feet, but to be exact I'd have to measure.

Could always buy a steam link for like 50 bucks and just stream your PC

and if you go with this option games are only going to stream at 1080p, so you could like drop to a 380X GPU, and be perfectly fine for 1080p gaming, which would bring the price down further.

I don't mind doing 1080p for what I do with the computer, if I decided to go this route and not the 4k route with the tv do you think I could it would be fine to stream a movie or games that far? If so this may be a really good option for me since I work at Vizio we can get ahold of a 50" Tv for like $200.

Long as you have a wired connection between your PC and the link it'll stream pretty well, preferably with CAT6 and a decent router/switch
