Title, and Ive been wanting to do it for a long time.

I looked up the tutorials and how-to videos but I wanna know if there is anyone here with experience in doing it and if so, what extra do I need to know that a normal tutorial wouldnt tell me. And also, is it worth the time to do it?

Well I've done it and you basically need an Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU with a higher-end motherboard to make it work perfect. If we don't know your hardware then we can't tell you if it's worth your time :P

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Hardware is right in my sig :D

Intel - check

High end motherboard - check (or at least Id say)

Nvidia - check

Well it sounds like you're ready to go, BUT, do you have an Apple PC with the OS you want to use available? Say, you want your Hackintosh to have OSX El Capitan, you gotta have a Mac with OSX El Capitan available in the App Store to do it. You also wanna get a decently fast flash drive of 16GB or so and download Unibeast and whatnot on the aforementioned Mac.

Yeh, I could just get the OS off of my MacBook Air.

And I have a 16GB SanDisk Cruzer on my desk in front of me as well :P

Nice, follow the guide on TonymacX86 and you should be fine.

Do you believe it's worth the gamble with a mid-range motherboard like my Gigabyte B85M-D3H? (yes, it features a dual BIOS in case something goes horribly wrong).

I'd be willing to jump through hoops, as Final Cut Pro X would do wonders for my workflow due to my experience with iMovie and its native AVCHD support.

I've used a Gigabyte DS3H (board in my sig iirc) and had nothing but problems getting proper codecs and ultimately gave up. You want a Z97 board if possible.

I believe not every intel cpu and nvidia gpu support hackintosh.

Go to tonymacx86 to check exactly what component you need.

http://www.tonymacx86.com/building-customac-buyers-guide-march-2016.html

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
