R9 Nano Passive

Go to solution Solved by Stefan1024,

Look in my signature, 500 watts passive cooled. So yes you can do it, but it requires serious modding. Also with HBM it gets difficult as you need higth mounting preasure but the big interposer can break easely.

Also the power denisty is higher compared to GDDR.

A really really  large heatsink

Is there any way I can make the R9 Nano Passively Cooled

Only way is potentially having a custom heatpipe design and a massive fin array to carry the heat away from the GPU itself, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a nano of being a mini sized yet powerful card.

And bucket loads of airflow. Lots, and lots of airflow.

I'm not sure; even with the stock cooler that has a cooling fan, the R9 Nano thermal throttles like a bitch. Even with a really big heatsink I'm not sure the R9 Nano will run well at all passively cooled. If you do manage to get it to work, could you let me know?

Mineral oil and 40 kg aluminium heat sinks are a perfect combination: 73 cores and a Titan X, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Oil
