So I created this post awhile ago with no response after awhile.

My PC has a freezing issue where it will randomly freeze, I did learn however that my problem may be web browsers? It seems I can run video games and anything else without a problem but as soon as a launch any web browser my PC will freeze within 5 minutes of it being opened. I have tried different web browsers. Google Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer, ETC. I am on a fresh install of windows 10 to fix this problem originally. Any ideas or clues to what may be causing this? I cant seem to find a lot online on the issue.

It would have been prudent to post your system specifications.

Do you do regular system software maintenance?

Is this a recent issue.....if so, have you installed any software between the time where this wasn't an issue to where it was?

Do you have adobe flash installed?

Does this happen with EDGE?<----this is a browser in Win10

Do you do windows system updates?

Do you OC(overclock)

Do you regularly scan for malware with a robust anti-malware software?

Do you pull your hair out when this happens? Some pics would go nicely for our amusement.

My Specs are on the original post, so didnt think I would need to post them twice sorry.

Do you do regular system software maintenance? Yes, I tend to do it every other day or so.

Its been happening for awhile just recenty learned its web browsers, before thought it was Adobe/Flash but it seems just having a blank tab open will even cause my PC to freeze

Do you have adobe flash installed? Yes

Does this happen with EDGE? I have not tried EDGE, but I can switch to that web browser next to see if the problem continues.

Do you do windows system updates? Yes, I tend to manually update a day or two after a update gets released.

Do you OC(overclock)? No, not at all.

Do you regularly scan for malware with a robust anti-malware software? Yes, I check when I do my regular system maintenance

Do you pull your hair out when this happens? Haha, I sometimes get annoyed but never pulled my hair out yet.

Do you use any browser extensions at all ?

Also , would help if you could open task manager , set the refresh rate at high at options , and than look what happens to your system as it freezes.

What kind of security program do you use?

Just to clarify, you have a clean install (with deleting partitions etc) done on this machine now ?

Have you checked to see if this issue happens in safe mode?....if not do the following and when you are in safe mode run all the browsers one after another to see if you get the issue still. How to enter safe mode

Try this too, how to do a clean boot

On Google chrome, I used a youtube extenstion that allowed settings to be kept for videos/Made the video screen as big as the screen, and used adblock , On Opera I only had the youtube extension, and on EDGE Which I switched too last night (And yes this also still freezes at random when used) I have none on. Just set the refresh rate to high and will keep it opened while I run my PC, And as for security program I use IObit. And yes I did a full clean install deleting all my partitions and blah.

I have checked in safemode with networking and I still freeze when a web browser is opened. Also I was able to watch videos on EDGE for about 6+ hours last night with no issue then it froze. So its more "stable" but dislike the browser... And I have also done a clean boot as well with the same results.

One last question, what version of adobe flash do you have installed? The latest is v21.0.0.182. If you do have this version installed i would recommend you uninstall adobe flash player from windows and use chrome to play some YT vidoes with flash players disabled in the browser too.

To disable adobe flash player type this in the address bar chrome://plugins/ then scroll down to adobe flash player and disable it.

I had the latest version, I uninstalled it and disabled google chromes adobe flash player. I was able to watch youtube videos for roughly 3 hours before it froze again. Next idea?

  1. Clear your CMOS. Shut down the PC
  2. touch the PSU's housing
  3. unplug the power cord from the PSU
  4. remove GPU and RAM
  5. remove motherboard battery
  6. wait 3 minutes
  7. put motherboard battery back in the slot on the motherboard
  8. put  GPU and RAM back in the correct slots
  9. restart the PC
  10. you will be prompted to enter the BIOS to make changes, press what ever key the screen tells you to press to enter the BIOS then reset the time, date, timezone(if need to) and any other settings you have you changed in the BIOS
  11. restart PC and check for the issue

Done this before I did a fresh install but did it anyway earlier. Was able to watch videos and such for hours before freezing again. Although the freezing isnt solved I am at least happy that I can watch videos and such longer then 5 minutes.

I would not accept that as a win. I checked your original post and saw the RAM listed was Corsair XMS 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3-1333, well on checking the Corsair's memory finder  i do not see any XMS ram as being compatible only XMS3, maybe you do have an XMS3 kit and just left it out but if you have just a XMS kit of RAM then it could be the RAM having an issue or it may be the wonkyness of Win10, i would advise you install all the other win10 drivers for your MOBO like the LAN and audio driver listed on ASUS's support page.

I would also put the RAM's frequency to 1333mhz to see if you get the issue after, if not then i would carry the frequency up in stages, 1333--->1600--->1866 and so on until the issue happens then just go back down one frequency level and be happy there. If it still happens i would try swapping out parts, the RAM would be first.

You are sure the RAM is in the blue slots right. that would be the preferred dual channel slots.

Ah Sorry, Yes it is a XMS3 kit I was just writing down the names off of my order history and it just showed it has XMS. As for drivers I went ahead and installed every win10 available driver and as for the RAM frequency I am have having the same result with freezing after a few hours of use but it seems when I switch the frequency to any of the highest options my PC will sometimes not even boot? It will just hang for awhile and I will have to force restart it.

Dunno if thats normal or not and I switched my RAM sticks to the blue slots, didn't know thats what the colors meant but cool I learned something.

I would say the RAM could be faulty.  Try different RAM if you have or can borrow. Then RMA them if you can.

Yeah the colours are to show the which slots are which. Always remember with dual channel MOBOs you go 1 stick slot one, 2 sticks slots 2 and 4 and well all 4 sticks is self explanatory.

I will give that a shot, I dont have any spare RAM at the moment so I will have to see if I can borrow some. Luckily Corsair has lifetime warranty so replacing the RAM wont be a problem. But wont be able to replace the RAM for a few days. Thanks for helping me for so long, once I get some RAM to swap and/or I get my RAM replaced I will post back if that solved the issue or not.
