Hi everyone.

Sorry if my question seems silly to you expert overclockers but I just need some help!

I have the 980TI FTW card. I decided to do some thorough research and when confidnet had a go at overclocking in MSI afterburner and used Heaven benchmark.

The max I could go was an offset core clock of +65 with 110 max power draw (voltage was never touched) and memory was at 150. Max temp under load hit 83 degrees.

Anything more than that and the heaven would crash out. When I checked GPU-Z I was up in the high 1400mhz at boost. The card comes out the box boost at around 1200. I didn't think that was too bad right?

Anyway...during the benchmark my fans spun up which I would imagine is going to happen on a stress test but does this mean the fans will always behave like this in normal gaming? Will I only see the boost speed and extra FPS when the fans spin that loud?

If I leave the card at stock I can game in silence. Will my card continue to do this with the overclock applied?

If really appreciate some guidance and help on this.

Thanks.

The fans only spin up if the temperature increases. You can adjust your fan curve in afterburner to make it quieter.

If I adjust the fans in MSI afterburner to be more quiet wouldn't the temp go higher than what I have?

It will, but it will stay within a comfortable temperature since you haven't added any voltage. If you do add voltage for higher clock speeds, than you will probably be reaching higher temperatures causing your fan to ramp up more. If you are happy with the performance you are getting without having to overvolt, just have the fan start to ramp up at like 65-70C.
