Hey guys,

So for some apparent reason my PC is locking up when i play games at random intervals. It seems to happen whenever it wants but always during gaming. It seems to happen more often when i use 2 screens but before it never happened when i just used one. Now it is happening with 1 screen.

I know for sure this isn't a BSOD issue but im worried that it could be maybe one of my hardware devices. My case doesnt seem to have that much dust in it but i will get some compressed air asap and give it a bit of a clean. Not sure if its a CPU issue either (overheating etc)

Parts are

Case: Silverstone Raven RV02-E

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V (not pro)

PSU: Silverstone strider 850W silver

GPU: AMD Radeon 6950 2GB Sapphire (latest drivers before crimson beta)

CPU: Intel I5 2500k 3.30ghz (not overclocked)

RAM: G.skill ripjaws 1600 4x2GB

Would like to eliminate this problem ASAP and any suggestions would be welcome

could be a cpu throttling issue  from overheating ,, but theirs factors to look into for that, what cpu cooler you running is it  hot in the room you game on.  and  things like that.

it very well still could be a hardware issue  ,,,  ram  could be showing signs of ageing prematurely   harddrive  or SSD could be  going bad (developing bad sectors in the HDD) that will make things lock up right there.  youll just have to do process of elimination ,,,, and well  there always is the age old classic,, check for a virus or extreme malware.

Im using the fan that came with it, haven't ever really needed an aftermarket although that might change soon with someone i have been talking to about it. I was gonna replace the 6950 with the 780 GTX but if its an overheating issue im kinda reluctant. My room has been a little hot but i've had my door and window open so i dunno there. Oh my case does have a switch for the 3 bottom fans it has that let it go from 700rpm to 1200 but it does get pretty loud from there.

This SSD is about 2 years old since ive started it but i got in 2013 at PAX AUS but it is only a 120gb and getting a bit full..

RAM i guess i could use something like memtest and enter through bios right?

I dunno if its the HDD's i have been meaning to buy the HGST 4TB NAS to move my games from the 2TB HDD so i can use that one for recording space and other downloads.

EDIT: Actually the fan seems to be louder than usual with less things open now. I understand when you got alot more its gotta work harder to keep it cool but current only usage is like 55% and it started getting pretty loud, like it is trying to work too hard.

yes memtest and bios  for ram ,, check for dust on the fan,  and do an error check with your harddrive the SSD Im not sure about how to test it,I know for sure you are never supposed to defrag them ,, so error checking i bet would not be wise either.
