So I am looking to build a budget gaming rig for a friend. I just so happened to come across a video made by Linus that explained the process of  making a cheap gaming rig out of a old xeon server... So im asking for a bit of help in terms of compatibility... I was looking at this motherboard   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-p-n-CPU-S5000SL-A-Dual-Xeon-CPU-LGA771-Server-Motherboard-E11025-302-/281811738032?hash=item419d49ddb0:g:BfkAAOSw37tWCIuV Combined with these processors http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E5450-Quad-Core-3-0GHZ-12MB-SLBBM-LGA771-BX80574E5450A-Processor-/172134066593?hash=item2813fd69a1:g:dUsAAOSwoBtW5w0T  and i'm not sure if this is compatible but this ram... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Server-RAM-32GB-8x-4GB-PC2-5300P-ECC-Registered-DDR2-667-PC5300-2Rx4-Memory-LOT-/301898977822?hash=item464a94d21e:g:TCQAAOSwoydWnpul my plan was to take these items combined with a gtx 960, and a decent power supply(that i haven't chosen yet), and either but in a old case.. or build a custom case and get my friend into the pc gaming world. Also to start out with anyway i have another friend with a spare HDD and Operating System installation disc and code. So i would love to get thoughts and idea's... I am a bit new to this, ive only got one pc build under my belt, however i feel decently capable.

Edit : My budget is basically as cheap as humanly possible with decent results, with the idea of the server build above i would be spending somewhere between 300 - 400 dollars. I have the capability to build a case from complete scratch as well (due to the fact that it is not the standard sized motherboard) plan being to make one out of wood or something else similar such as modifying a older case. i do plan to buy cpu coolers as well(i left that out by mistake).

p.s if i did make a case my idea is just a simple box with custom grounding/mounting holes, and some holes for airflow at which fans would be attached ( those holes would be covered by brass spray painted mesh) and the box would most likely be stained, and either burn etched, or carved. (all of which i have the material and tools lying around to accomplish)

Also thanks for the help everyone.

If you really cannot afford new parts, This could be fine but I think you'll also need to find CPU coolers for them...  I would recommend against it.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

That's actually not a terrible build but they're right, you'll need coolers.  Though you can probably get those on eBay too.  another thing to note is that that is an EATX motherboard so it won't fit inside a standard ATX case, you'll need something a tad larger. Make sure you buy a case that supports the larger EATX motherboard size.

On a side note, that looks a LOT better than the 'old gaming server' that LTT built.  But I swear to god, they purchased the most USELES configuration of hardware I've ever seen.  I wonder if they purposefully purchased the most feature poor and hard to work with server kit they could find so as to highlight possible challenges.  What you have there on the other hand is a typical dual core workstation board with all the normal features that you'd come to expect.
