What is the best program to rip dvds (that is free). Currently I am using VLC but it is kind of slow. Any Suggestions?

Pretty sure format shifting is legal in the UK for CD's at least.

 

Edit: Welp, misread a title on an article, seems it is although it is such a stupid law.

Ripping is the process of copying data from optical media (cd dvd blu ray) and putting it on your hard drive. Technically this is legal ( in the us at least) because it is for private use and I own the physical copy off it. @Blueprint

Oh ok, well I definetly don't have a 1tb external drive full of ripped movies... .
