Planning to upgrade my system by next week and I need as much help as I can with selecting a couple of components. The system will be mostly used for gaming.

Current selection is either the 6600 or the 6700. I have no plans on overclocking so I'm thinking on what would be the best motherboard to purchase. The B150, H170, or the Z170? Are there benefits of purchasing the higher end motherboards aside from the ability to overclock?

Motherboard - ROG Maximus VIII Formula
CPU - Intel Core i5 6600 @ 3.9 GHz
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2400MHz
GPU -
Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
PSU - Corsair RM750i
Case - Corsair Carbide 400C
Keyboard - Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition Chroma
Mouse - Razer Naga Chroma

Headset - Razer Kraken 7.1 v2 Chroma

if you aren't planning on overclocking, get a non-k processor

and yes, you should get a lower end motherboard if you don't want to overclock and just need the normal features

Intel i7 6700K | MSI Krait Z170A MSI GTX 980 w/ NZXT Kraken G10/x31 Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD/WD Blue 1TB HDD NZXT H440 | K70 RGB/SteelSeries Rival

Would there be a significant difference between the 6600 and the 6700?

I forgot to add that I'll only be using SSD's due to the cost and selections of M.2 or even a PCIe SSD's. With that said, what would you recommend for the motherboard side. The B150 or the H170?

i5 to i7 is pretty much no hyperthreading to hyperthreading.. 6700 is obviously more powerful, not a huge jump, but significant enough

get the i7 if it fits in your budget, don't worry otherwise tho

I don't get what you're saying with the SSDs.. are you going to be using the pcie and m.2 ones or are you only going to be using the regular sata ones?

If you currently have an i5 4460 it's not worth upgrading your CPU unless you need more threads for streaming/video editing

and you wouldn't need to buy a new board, if you want more threads just upgrade to a Xeon 1231v3

skylake isn't worth the money to upgrade, the CPUs are only 5% faster

if anything upgrade your display to 4k in preparation for the new GPUs

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

There are other significant differences.

B150 does not support RAID arrays, SLI, or M.2(M) drives. Many motherboards support 2 Crossfire gpu, (one x4).

H170 does not support SLI. It does support RAID arrays, M.2(M) drives, and 2 Crossfire gpu, (one x4).

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

For the SSD's, just the regular SATA ones.

How about the 6600K compared to the 6700? Again, will just run on stock. Checking if it'll be of better value.

That's my exact sentiments. If it were up to me I'd just upgrade my GPU or monitor. However, it was my Aunt who'll shoulder the expenses since she suggested the upgrade. I just can't think of a reason on how to justify the GPU over a complete system overhaul.

why would you get a K processor when you don't want to overclock? :P

if you're just using regular SSDs, get a normal motherboard, you don't need a rlly fancy one for what you're doing
