New PC

MarcB

Hello, i`m pretty sure (90%) i`ll buy these components to build a new rig :

processor : intel xeon 1231 v3

motherboard : asus h97-plus

ram : corsair vengeace pro 16gb ddr3 dual channel

psu : corsair rm550x

video card : asus gtx960 strix 4gb 128bytes

case : corsair carbide 100r silent edition

I need a good,silent and reliable computer.

I need some advice, if it some of these components really need to be changed.

Thanks.

I would suggest to get a R9 380 4GB, more performance, more bang for your buck, better DX12 performance. Also I would suggest upping the case to a 330R. Also what cooler are you gonna use for that Xeon E3 ?

CPU: i5 6600K @ 4.0Ghz w/ Corsair H60 GPU: EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified 3GB BOARD: Asus Z170-A RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4GB DDR4 3200Mhz PSU: Corsair AX 860

HDD: 2x 4TB WD RED SSD: Intel 535 Series 180GB CASE: NZXT S340 Razer Edition MONITOR: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 1MS 1080p

I would suggest a R9 380 4GB at this price since it usually beats the 960 with a good CPU.

I have actually no idea, but don't the Xeons come with a stock cooler? Should be fine in this case if it does.

Yes they do, but I have 330R, similiar to the 100R, and I REALLY DONT suggest to use a stock cooler with it.

I would not recommend a 960, I'd say try and find a deal on a used 970... I sadly cannot see any reason to pay so much for the card's 1080P performance in many new titles.

Current rig :  |CPU: 2600K @ 4.8GHz|   |GPU: EVGA ACX GTX 980 @ 1.5GHz| |Ram: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X|   |Storage: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, WD Blue 500GB, WD Black 1TB|  |Motherboard: AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3|   |Cooler : Black Phanteks TC14PE (3 Corsair AF140s)|   |Power Supply : Thermaltake TPG-850M|  |Case: Phantom 410 Black|

they are less reliable. but, they could work. another thing to keep in mind is the samsung disks flush function.

if the power goes out it dumps all the data it's working on into the storage minimizing data loss

I love that feature on my 128gb samsung 830 SSD

I used to run a stock cooler on a 2600k inside an aerocool xWarrior, and after that inside a define R4 (which, as far as I can tell is similar in airflow), both without issues. Sure, it could be loud, but never obnoxious, especially not inside a closed case.

That was sandy bridge, the 1231 has a slightly lower TDP, so it shouldn't be as loud. Besides, if it ends up being too loud for him, an aftermarket cooler isn't that hard to install.

You had a Sandy Bridge chip, those are always cool, Haswell has bad TIM, it's harder to cool down.
