I was running some firestrike runs, and I saw that my CPU temps are jumping around a lot.

Is this normal?

I am using a Prolimatech Armageddon cooler with 2 140 mm fans.

Everything is stock with this CPU (Did not overclock or something). Core Voltage is 1.290 though.

I have 3 intake 120mm Noctua fans and 1 140 mm exhaust

What CPU cooler are you using, Stock?

80c on firestrike seems a bit too high

The highest mine has been is 70c with a 212 evo

Nope, using a Prolimatech Armageddon.

Why are you running 1.29v at stock?

It is standard in the BIOS, did not touch it.

Lol 1.29 volts standard? i'm running at 1.255 volts f or my 4.7Ghz.

That is weird. I've owned two 4790K chips. One jumped to 1.24 at 4.4GHz, the other 1.18GHz. You might be able to manually undervolt it by quite a bit, which would help keep your temps down.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Hmm okay. What would you reccomend? Around 1.20? Or should I just take the voltage and overclock it :P (Don't know if its usefull for gaming with 2 580's as my GPU's though)

If you're running at 4 GHz which i assume your i7 is at stock. try 1.10 and keep on going up until it doesn't crash under load, Try using the intel extreme utility for overclock and when you find one that works do it in the bios :P.

If you want to play it extremely safe, start at 1.24 (which any i7-4790K should be more than stable at) and dial it back until you're unstable. You'll probably end up around 1.15-1.18. My current CPU, by comparison, is stable at 1.14v at stock.

Its running with boost at 4.4 though. :P

You're almost certainly fine. I just like to play it safe and be painfully meticulous about things. My "stabilization verification" takes 3-4 days when I think I've found my best OC lol

This is the result I got with 1.2 v. Firestrike only reports 0.8v xD? Doubt that would be stable lol. Does this look like better temps, or is there something else happening?

Looks like it's scaling the voltage down? Do you have HWMonitor or CPU-Z, something you can use to check your vCore?

Hmm odd. HW monitor still reports max 1.290v, but temps went down?

Yeah, that's for if you want to find a starting point for an overclock without spending hours stepping through clock speeds individually. For just changing your voltage, BIOS is the way to go. Just set it to manual or override and enter 1.2, changing nothing else, then see if it boots. If it does, run XTU, RealBench, OCCT, AIDA64, whatever you want until you're confident enough in stability to dial it back to 1.19, and so on and so forth.

Also keep in mind that the 80c temps you showed in your 1st post were in the physics portion of the test. Physics are handled by the cpu so you will always have higher temps on the physics portion of the benchmark. That said also 80c seems a bit high without an overclock. Like I said I have the i5 4690k mines overclocked to 4.6ghz at 1.28v and I hit 80c in physics and short time in combined if I remember correctly. Although mine I believe is a small spike to the low 80's not constant 80c through whole physics portion.
