VMWare USB Wifi not working with linux

Go to solution Solved by cloneman,

I'm guessing what you want to do is a USB-Passthrough. This means that Windows does not see the card at all (it sees it as a VMware USB Device), so there's no need to configure it in NAT, or Bridged, or whatever - both VMware and Windows are unaware of the existence of the network card in this mode, and this is what you want.

You simply click the little icons at the bottom of VMware to assign direct access to a USB device in the VM. Then you need to configure it in Kali but it probably already has the drivers.

You can do the same thing with other USB devices, for example, a game controller or camera.

So I used VMWare to boot Kali Linux but I'm having trouble getting Kali to detect my usb wifi card, it did once and everything ran fine but since then I haven't been able to get it to connect.

It is a TP-Link wn722n. Any help would be appreciated

Should just have to set that machine up to use NAT. Hold on though, let me check my Kali machine (I've got a Netgear USB NIC)

EDIT: Yup, set the network adapter of the machine to NAT. If that doesn't work, you are missing some parts from the VMWare installation.

I think I used bridged, I don't have my USB with me right now so I can't try NAT, but maybe that's what I did to get it to work.

NAT is what I've always used, regardless of wireless or wired connection. Never had an issue except with one install of XP that was interrupted and seemed to have skipped all network drivers.. lol

Hopefully that works, I have been told to get the driver for the chipset but I have heaps of trouble getting Kali on the internet and I'm not sure I want to xD

Thanks, I did already figure this out :D It was actually just a case of VMware not easily getting windows to stop reading the device.
