Compression Fittings

Quick question regarding these fittings, should they screw up fully? I've been fitting together some tubing but some fittings don't tighten as much as others, however the tube is firmly in place and I don't see it leaking at all. Is there something I'm missing here?

Usually compression fittings don't have to (and in most cases should not) be screwed together completely. 

 

But since i haven't used these exact fitting before i can't answer the question with 100% certainty.

there should always be a gap between the two pieces

If that's as tight as you can get them and the fittings aren't leaking, then you're fine.

The whole idea behind why there is space, is that the fitting screw will hit the centre o-ring first before bottoming out the thread.

 

This always varies based on which tube you use, the thickness of the o-rings, etc.  Perfectly normal, OP.
