Black Desert

Go to solution Solved by SolarNova,

Depends.

I went in blind..ish. I seen the video's on youtube and liked what I saw.

BUT.

The game has its flaws imo.

Story/Lore presentation is absolutely crap. In ur traditional MMO you have large quest dialog boxes giving you all the info u need and then some, and usualy chained quests that work well leading into each other with that same large amount of quest dialog. In BDO, none of that, u get a few sentences that u have to click through and.... that's it u have the quest go do it. Kinda sh*t imo.

The English VA (Voice acting). its cringe worthy. Thankfully a mod was released just over a day ago and it works like a charm converting the English voice files over to ether Japanese or Korean. You can find it here.

Combat, u'll ether love or hate it. You the option of ur standard shortcut skills for ease of use but this has a drawback of increased resource cost, or u use the commands like ina traditional fighting game. Like Forward+RightMouse leading into Shift+F into 3x LeftMouse. etc

Graphics. Al lthe presentation vids u see look beautiful. But in actuality the graphics has some serious flaws. The Pop in effect of objects is just bad, and u can forget about using the ingame AA, its FXAA and its sh*t. Performance is also a tad on the bad side, the game will never drop below 30, but it will sit at 30, or 40, or 55-60 in most cases, its almost as if it has some asinine buffering system for Vsync, and I have yet to find a ingame option to disable VSync to see if that helps (though the way it performs I doubt it would).

There are also a few small thigns u would expect to be standard, the game remembering which server you chose for ur chars. It doesntu  have to select it each time the game loads in, it has no Ping indicator in the UI (that I have found) and the crafting UI is also, imo, unorganised and presented badly. There are more small issues but I wont go through them all.

Arguably the worst issue though is DAUM. They really feel like one of those business that have picked up BDO for some quick cash with 0 interest in the game and the player base. 0 communication (be it forums, tickets, news, or patch notes) and their cash shop is ridiculously over priced, with a single 'skin' set of armor costing as much as you pay for the entire game. Speaking of armor... The character customisation is GREAT, but the armor you get in the game, there are like 4-6 different looking armors for your class in the entire game, they all look similar, they all look boring and rag like, meaning every otherp erson u see of your class looks the same with the exception of their hair style and color (as ull never get close enough to see the faces in most cases) the only way to get a good look armor is to buy them via the premium shop, and even then u only have 3 or 4 choices.

My advice, find a 7 day guest pass from som1 you has bought the game. IIRC there are plenty of forums and redit posts with people giving them out, though you'll also find people selling them.
