g.skill Trident Z DDR4 Owners - can you remove the red trim?

According to this article, the red trim can be removed from the trident z ram. However, I haven't seen mention of it in any other articles.

Has anyone actually done this? I'm concerned that by removing the trim the two heat spreaders will not be secured other than by the conductive tape. If I can remove the trim safely and store it for RMA purposes I would consider it (I have no red in my build), but I can't determine if it is the final piece that holds on the spreaders or if there is another retention mechanism such as screws.

If someone has done this can you post a photo of the ram without the red trim in place?

Thanks!

It looks to be removable without compromising the structural integrity of the memory. You might even be able to paint it once you remove it, and put it back in place if the color scheme is not something you desire. Hope this helped you out.

The first link you provided showed me exactly what I was hoping to see. A top down shot of the memory without the red trim. Even before reading this I pulled the trigger and got an order placed with a local supplier...while the red doesn't go with anything at all in my case, I figured I could live with it until an upgrade cycle. That said, white, black, and noctua brown(s) dont't really match either. :)

Thank so much for pointing me to a review I hadn't found. Much appreciated!
