Not getting Gigabit connection up

ryanmmax

Ok so I have connected strait into both my router and switch (listed below) and both ways it shows a 100.0 Mbps connection.   I have tried different cables andaI dont understand, am I missing somthing?

Gigabit switch-              TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 10/100/1000Mbps 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

Gigabit modem/router   NETGEAR N600 Wi-Fi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router (C3700)

Gigabit MOBO-            Z97 MSI gaming 5 MOBO

I mostly care because I bought a Western Digital My book Live a few years ago.  Recently I set it back up and I cannot get get transfer speeds  above 10MB/s usually around 5-6MB/s... I would like to see 10-20 more consistency....

Resulting connection

I am guessing that your router is connected to your switch which is connected to your pc?

What happens with your linkspeed in Windows if you unplug everything except your computer and your router from the switch?

Are all your cables factory made, or did you make them yourself? If you made them yourself, did you make sure both ends are either 568A or 568B? Contrary to popular belief, a cable with 568A on one end and 568B on the other doesn't make a crossover cable, as it only crosses over 2 of the 4 pairs. If you did make one of those cables, you would only be able to get a link at 100Mb.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

Popular belief is not incorrect. It A to B DOES make a crossover cable for Fast Ethernet. Nobody cares about crossovers for Gigabit Ethernet because everybody started including Auto MDI/MDI-X.

But yes, faulty cables could be a problem in this scenario.

just moved stuff around a found that half my cables dont seem to support gigabit....  so I ordered some cat7  and will be replacing all the cables that carry significant data (things like my receiver can probably get by on 100mbps)

****UPDATE***

-Pulled new CAT7 from my office to the network closet

-Installed CAT7 between routers, switches, NAS

-Tested all my network cables an threw out everything that did not give GIGA connection.

-Only used CAT cables that have GIGA speed for anything

Result-

Photo transfer speed                     From   6MB/s     to    35MB/s

Single large file transfer speed      From   12MB/s   to    70MB/s

In General x6 performance boost of my NAS
