Does RAM Downclock?

Does anyone know if RAM downclocks itself when its not being used much? I have 2133Mhz RAM that task manager says is running at 800Mhz

No. What's happened is you failed to enable the XMP profile in your motherboard bios. Your memory is running at 1600 MHz, but since it's DDR (double data rate) task manager is outputting the running speed which is 800. It's 1600 MHz bandwidth because, again it's DDR, so 800 X 2 (double) = 1600.

 

You need to go into your bios and enable the XMP memory profile.

ram is the last thing you should worry about unless you have VM's running on your computer

 

I think it is possible to set a ram clock lower in the UEFI

i dont know if it will downclock by itself

i dont think thats how it works though :I
because the multiplier is constant for ram and the baseclock never changes unless you changed it manually

Ok small issue... Last I checked my MOBO wont let me enable XMP??? Ill check again though (it has the setting its just blocked off, probably because my OC)

AMD motherboards do not read XMP profiles. You have to manually enter the clock and timings yourself. 

 

Don't worry it really isn't that difficult to do. 

 

RAM also runs at a fixed operating frequency. The bus speed of your processor can affect it by 1-2MHz though.

Yes, OC Genie just doesnt like XMP. If I turn of OC Genie I can
